Hello. I’m currently in prep on Sex Education, a comedy feature written by Jamie Minoprio and Jonathan Stern. The script was voted no.1 on the 2010 Brit List (the British Black List). The producers are Faye Ward at Ruby Films and Joe Oppenheimer at BBC Films.
I’m based between London and Los Angeles. My US TV work includes La La Land, the Showtime comedy series I directed and executive produced in 2009/10. It stars Marc Wootton as three hapless wannabes seeking fame and fortune in LA. If you go to the links opposite, you can watch a 6 minute “sizzle reel” of the whole series.
In 2010 I directed BBC comedy-drama pilot Stanley Park and one-off BBC2 event drama Excluded. Stanley Park had a brilliant cast including Holliday Grainger and Sharon Horgan and although it isn’t going anywhere here, Fox is now remaking it in the US. Excluded had an equally fantastic cast (Brian Dick, Craig Parkinson and a lot of amazing kids acting for the first time), but it’s very different - a hyper-naturalistic drama about the relationship between a newly qualified teacher and a hell-raising pupil. It got some pretty impassioned reviews.
Earlier this year I completed Lucky Country, a BBC comedy pilot starring Julia Davis and Marc Wootton. It’s very funny and there’s a little bit of it on my SHOWREEL.
Older work includes comedy series My New Best Friend (C4) and High Spirits With Shirley Ghostman (BBC) and celebrated documentaries Britain’s Favourite Hoaxer (C4) and Death in Gaza (HBO). Collectively this work has won four Emmys, a BAFTA and a British Comedy Award, while I have personally been nominated for three BAFTA Awards, including the Breakthrough Talent Award.
I recently joined Rogue for commercials. I’m currently writing and directing campaigns for Google and Ryvita. I’ll link to them when they launch later in the year. Past clients include Penguin, Electrolux, Mercedes Benz and an award winning campaign for the Terrence Higgins Trust.
